About Us
Welcome to Blackshear Heights!
At Blackshear Heights, we are dedicated to empowering our community and supporting those in need! Our mission is to create positive change by providing resources, education, and support to help individuals and families thrive.
Our Programs & Events
Men & Women of Faith
Our flagship initiative is a comprehensive 12-month program designed for young people aged 13-18. We address essential life skills such as teamwork, manners, financial stability, and future education. Through engaging workshops and activities, participants not only learn valuable skills but also celebrate their growth with a graduation ceremony at the end of the program.
Baskets of Hope
We recognize the challenges that families face, and we are committed to helping parents in need by providing essential household items and resources. Our goal is to support families in creating stable and nurturing environments for their children.
The Silver Inititaive
At Blackshear Heights, we believe in the importance of intergenerational connections. We spend quality time with elderly community members, offering companionship and assistance with small tasks to enhance their well-being.
Helping Hands
We actively work to support the homeless population by providing essential items and resources. Our outreach initiatives aim to bring hope and support to those in need within our community.
Community Events
We host three major events each year; Juneteenth, BHF's Back-2-School Bash & Fall Festival to foster community engagement and connection. These events bring people together to celebrate, share resources, and build relationships within our community.
Our Vision
We envision a thriving community where every individual, especially our youth, has access to the tools and support necessary for a successful future. By collaborating with organizations and individuals who share our values, we aim to make a lasting impact in San Angelo and beyond.

Our Story
Leary Owens, the esteemed president and founder of the Blackshear Heights Family, is a passionate advocate for building strong community connections. His journey began in the fall of 2013 with a simple idea: to create a space for family bonding and fun. Leary launched the annual Fall Festival as a humble backyard gathering, motivated by his desire to strengthen relationships with his son and cousins.
What started as a small-scale event quickly blossomed into a larger community celebration. Over the past 11 years, Leary expanded his vision to serve the entire San Angelo community. Each year, the Fall Festival welcomes over 400 children from the Concho Valley to partake in the joy and camaraderie of the occasion.
In addition to the Fall Festival, Leary has introduced various programs & events aimed at empowering families, supporting youth and brining the community together. The organization now offers workshops on life skills, community service initiatives, and seasonal events that foster connection among families and individuals. Programs addressing essential needs for parents and outreach efforts to support the elderly and homeless have further solidified Blackshear Heights’ commitment to community welfare.
Leary's dedication to fostering unity and belonging is evident in the success of the Blackshear Heights Family and its initiatives. Through his leadership and unwavering commitment, he has created a lasting legacy of love, laughter, and togetherness for generations to come.
